Athletes love to compete, simple as that. Making practices centered around competition is crucial because it will push the athletes to work harder and develop their skills. By having competition throughout practice whether it is included in drilling or live ball games it will be more fun and exciting for the players. By keeping practices interesting players will want to continue to play tennis. When I run practices for my college teams I always find a way to make it competitive because my athletes are competitors. Practicing pressure situations in practice will allow players to unleash their competitiveness.
Here are a few ways to make practice competitive:
- Set up targets or zones and a set goal to hit them
- Play team-oriented games
- Play incentive-based games
